Steam Cleaning vs. Shampooing Carpets

Steam Cleaning (Hot Water Extraction)

Best For: Regular maintenance, sanitizing, removing allergens/dust mites.

Process: Injects hot water and cleaning solution, then vacuums it up.

Pros: Deeper clean, removes 99% of bacteria, faster drying time, no sticky residue.

Cons: Higher professional cost, not ideal for delicate, heat-sensitive fabrics.

Carpet Shampooing

Best For: Heavily stained or high-traffic carpets.

Process: Uses a machine with brushes to apply foam/shampoo, followed by vacuuming.

Pros: Effective against stubborn stains.

Cons: Can leave sticky chemical residue, longer drying times (12-24 hours), not as effective for deep bacteria removal.

Steam cleaning is generally superior for deep cleaning, sanitizing, and removing allergens using hot water extraction, while shampooing is better for heavily soiled carpets with surface stains. Steam cleaning dries faster and uses fewer chemicals, whereas shampooing often requires longer drying times and may leave residue.
